The path to existential AI exist but we are not currently on it. The current path leads to more fictional AI output not factual output. When people mistake the output as real it can lead to physical and mental injury and death. Much of our current economy is based on fictional output produced by humans. Current and future AI can can replace these workers leading to vast unemployment destroying the current economy and may lead to a need for a new post labor economy. A path to Sentient AI is possible and this path can lead to the end of humanity.
