Calling it a surveillance economy instead of a surveillance state is nonsense. The automatic license plate readers provided by Flock are outsourced, but they're bought and paid for by the government. Do you think the missiles and bombs made by companies like Honeywell are exempt just because Honeywell isn't a government agency? Do you think Harris Technologies, maker of the Stingrays the DHS put in the hands of police departments throughout the country are exempt because they're not a government agency? Just because something is outsourced doesn't mean it's not part of a surveillance state. Especially when the state is paying them.
