I am now graduated, but while I was in school studying graphic design I recall some of my teachers being decently optimistic about AI... They had us start experimenting with AI, learning how it works, how to use it to get feedback that will improve a design we made, etc... One professor wanted us to see it as a tool that will become part of the industry. He specifically was optimistic that AI cannot fully replace an actual human designer. It can mimic already existing looks, but it cannot create the deeper meaning and research that underlies good graphic design. It's not just about looks, it's about connecting with a certain audience and meeting their needs, and for that you need a human.
