Using “AI”/languages models to help in law and other fields will absolutely happen. It will end up just being another tool. Like any other tool, you need to know how to use it and what it does. These lawyers clearly didn’t. Currently language models, like chatGPT, only do one thing. They mimic human writing. That’s it, they don’t care about anything else. All “AI” we have right now are just text generators. That text is based off something previously written by a person, and for that reason it can be used to help in writing. However, important to remember is that that’s all coincidental, not intentional. That’s why “AI” hallucinates. It’s not going rogue, it’s just doing it’s job. We don’t want “AI” to make things up and lie but that’s an additional thing we need to instruct it to do. But people will keep thinking that it’s magic. Especially given that we call it “AI” when it’s not, they are just limited language models (LLM) marketed as AI.
