If democracy is unable to address this issue, then there will be violence, and the people building AI know this. They're betting on it. It's why they want bunkers, it's why they want private countries, it's why they want to build a big beautiful wall and a mote, fully loaded with Palantir technology. They're preparing not for survival, they're preparing for war.
