Honestly, I’ve never cared about people using AI art. Now that opinion is controversial, and I’m gonna go on to say that YES- I’m an artist. I sell my art. And I’ve been drawing for a decade or more. But, I’m also pretty much married to my idea that before I judge something, I think about it from everyone’s point of view. I have close friends who sell pins and stuff to help support themselves. Little shops. But they can’t make their own art, I’m too busy to make it for them, so they use AI art. One of them even approached me asking me for my feelings since they knew that it was controversial to use the technology. And I told them the same thing. I’ve never cared all that much, was never “horrified” by it (like I’ve seen on many YouTube thumbnails), and just in general I haven’t seen much of a problem outside of losing work. And it’s always been kinda eh when it comes to the ethics. I think that while it is “stealing” art, I mean, it’s just doing a more literal version of what every artist does. There is no such thing as a new idea. All art we make came from some art or physical object or whatever we saw somewhere. It’s just ideas combined cohesively and intentionally. So while AI struggles to make it come together in a cohesive way, and generally lacks the ability to “draw”, it’s doing the same thing we do. So yeah. I’ve never really cared. I’m also a huge tech nerd who loves to research and nerd out about new technologies so maybe it’s my techy side and my artist side clashing. Not really sure.
