It's still better if it fails in my mind. We have survived recessions and depressions before, there is experience in handling them and if the AI doesn't replace us then the jobs will eventually get filled again, albeit likely in a worse state than before. If AI succeeds and the workforce have a big chunk of itself replaced (which is literally the one and only goal of these investors, burn money now to save money fro the rest of forever and screw every other living person under the 7-figure income line), then those jobs are gone forever. And I have no illusions there will be any sort of utopia with all needs fulfilled, it's be more like Cyberpunk where most people will have miserable lives on the bottom as the rich close off the economy to all but themselves because without a need for our labor, why would they even bother acknowledging we exist. They can circulate their fortunes between themselves and wont even needs us a consumers after a certain point. Essentially, they get Star Trek, we get Mad Max. And if Peter Thiel gets his way with life extensions, it'll have a little Zardoz mixed in. It is bad with either outcome, but one is a little less permanently bad.
