I don't think AI art ever got a burst of inspiration or decided to experiment and see what happens when you mix two colours together. Or add in some salt in some watercolour and see what beautiful blooms you can create and how does that look then painting on top of it. This discusion entirely discounts that as artists we like to play and have fun with things, and experiment, well I do anyway. I get excited to use my watercolours to experiment with them. I can't speak for others but there's rarely a time I start out with an exact plan in my mind of what I'm going to create and it turns out exactly like that. No, it always deviates, it's a journey where I try things, see if I like it, add some extra things. AI art isn't like that, it's just mashing up data points. Why have I never ever seen this brought up in these AI discussions? I might use references but I'm going to play and experiment along the way not just mash up a bunch of things that already exist. So I don't really agree that human made art is just combining references that already exist, that's part of it but there's a lot more play and experimentation involved which to me differentiates art from AI art.
