Ten years in the trucking industry. Feel free to burn me here I just feel like venting( I’m to ADD {real, not minimizing my beautiful brain!}to check comments). Automation is inevitable. We need to stop fighting for individual jobs and fight for our share of the pie. The unions are a micro government meaning they are ran by self serving sociopaths who want power just they have a lot less of it then the maniacs in DC. They don’t care about their brothers and sisters, they care about being re-elected. Don’t get stuck in the weeds here and worry about saving trucking jobs, when (BIG if) if we had the regulatory safeguards such as universal healthcare and income, an innovation such as safe autonomous trucking will have a huge impact on global logistics especially if paired with sustainable vehicles pulling from clean grids. Jobs will continue to be replaced by automation. We can’t rage against the night for our own sec interest when our children or their children won’t have any jobs to begin with. I’m not saying unions shouldn’t be in nearly every industry (they should!!) I’m saying we need to spend less energy trying to pressure governments into delaying the inevitable thus incentivizing greedy corporations to put even more capital into replacing people. We are a long way away from an altruistic future, and I get the tactic of stalling to allow regulation to catch up but WE need to get our heads out of our butts because WE are losing. Vote for change that helps the poor and average, vote for safeguards against corruption, vote for our children’s future. Don’t vote only to save your job specifically.
