The idea of not working anymore or never even getting the chance to start after university, isn’t as daunting to me as the thought that society itself won’t function normally. What matters is how people will use their free time.
I’m writing a book, I’m studying biomedicine with the hope of pursuing medicine and neurosurgery, even though that career path may not exist for me. But there are many who have no aspirations. If AI takes over, what happens when all that free time leads some towards crime, or when fear and scarcity mindsets cause shortages in essentials like food?
Not everyone will use their brainpower productively. And if AI creation goes south, I don’t think we’d survive it—not because of the tech, but because of human fear, greed, and self-destruction. Maybe this is what Einstein meant when he said “I know not with what weapons World War III will be fought, but World War IV will be fought with sticks and stones” because we’re inevitably coming to an end.
