AI has no idea what is true or false. AI is an oxymoron. If something is “artificial” it has no “intelligence”, if something is “intelligent” it is not “artificial”. Only people have intelligence. Computers are dumb as hell, worry about the people programming the computers because they are programming people vicariously through the computers to influence and manipulate us. I was a Computer Analyst Programmer for 45 years. I programmed in 18 languages. I can categorically state that no computer has ANY intelligence. Like I said, worry about who is programming the computers. Computers can read lots of data and process it very quickly according to the programs but they have no idea what is true or false or what is right or wrong. They simply process a loads of mostly erroneous data and draw mostly erroneous conclusions based on this data which is mostly wrong and which it cannot determine the truth or falsehood of. No. Not impressive but yes be scared because AI is being used to manipulate us. In all my years not one single error was ever caused by “a computer” they were all caused by bad programming. What people misguidedly call “AI” (a meaningless and misleading term invented by someone who either does not understand computers or more likely wishes to mislead people who do not understand computers) is not “conscious” of itself or of anything else. It is merely programming code written by programmers. Like all programs it has been written by people for a reason - possibly or even probably a bad reason. So dont go to Chat GPT or any other “AI” source for insight or wisdom, think for yourself! The term AI is not new and not describing some new type of computing. It was coined by American John McCarthy in 1956. He wrote LISP, one of the languages I programmed in. It is an unexceptional 3rd Generation procedural language. When he first used the term he was mocked by other Computer Scientists who clearly understood what “intelligence” means. It is derived from the Latin word “Intelligere” which means to understand. Computer software cannot “understand” anything nor has is it “conscious” of anything least of all itself. Stop believing this crap and start utilizing your own intelligence.
