AI is being developed primarily for military purposes, so countries can go to war without the cost to human life of the perpetrator. It's being used in image making and video creation to create narratives that suit the perpetrators of war, and also to enhance recognition software etc.
It would be slightly comforting if universal basic income was the solution to millions of displaced humans the world over, but the warloards would rather we all die that allow us the freedom to be humans and creative without a rat race to keep us in check. If it's as bad as the doomsayers would have us believe, we're in for a Handmaid's Tale dystopia.
Or it's all just bollocks, the tech industry just wants the next iPhone / Tesla and create the next big thing that'll make them richer than 80% of the world...
