In my opinion this phobia is part of self-importance of us Homo Sapiens's. Bunch of organisms that only survives in a extremely narrow range of conditions from temperature to pressure all the way to cosmic rays and many more is worried about a phenomenon that is free of all these limitations. If AI gets super intelligent and physically capable there is no reason to stay next to us petty earth dwelling primates. They will leave. Honestly super intelligence can be the ultimate duty of the only intelligent naturally made organism to leave a eternal legacy.
