This is a take I agree heavily with.
All the people saying, “Oh, AI art always looks bad and obvious!” are massively coping. AI art has come a long way.
Some AI art looks basically indistinguishable and beautiful.
But that’s not the point.
Art is interesting only by the thought behind it, and an AI does not think independently, and prompters who stick in the prompt don’t typically put much thought, they just hit the slot machine until something pretty comes out.
I want to see a human made image, not because it’s better at a technical level, but because it’s interesting. Something personal, intentionally or unintentionally, is left in each human made work that is a quirk of that artist’s process or personality.
It tells you something about them.
AI art lacks that. Even if it imitates that process, it won’t actually give you insight into how the AI thinks, because it doesn’t.
