I remember that I actually quit art a while during covid, partially because I was depressed and partially because I believed this idea of being replaced by AI. I picked up art again at the end of 2022 and started doing art commissions at the start of 2023. When I opened my commissions again, I did it purely for practice (I believe drawing only stuff you want to draw is bad for you, so commissions help as a good excuse). I didn't expect things to go well for me, as some of my uni friends had seen some massive drops in commissions after AI became mainstream, but I chose to do it anyway. Boy, was I wrong, Q1 of 2023 had me doing more commissions than the entirety of 2018-2019, and nowadays, I even have a queue of people waiting for me to open one more slot. I think AI has positively impacted me as an artist... not because I should use it... but because it actively makes people crave for actual art. AI art is almost like a taste, a preview of how an idea can look, it's not art, it'll never be, but its existence is enough to make people curious about seeing their idea come to life from an ACTUAL artist. So the only difference now is that I see the occasional AI image as reference for an OC, or a pose.... but other than that, things are looking good
