Meh. Both the AI dreamers and the AI doomers (especially in the creative world) are wrong. Including this guy. Yes, people who's work these models were trained on deserve compensation. But the idea of "licensing" it piece by piece like they do with hip hop sampling, (look up the De La Soul "Three Feet High & Rising" story) not only will take too long, it's also not as analogous as this guy's making it sound. I don't know what the solution is but it's not licencing. It's some broader compensation to published artists. And then....we can do what we want with AI but STILL artists can sue if the work is a blantant copy, which can be done with or without AI. Those laws need to be enforced. The place where this guy misses is the assumption that AI can't make original work. It can and does. Even though it "learned" from humans. I can also copy. Better than humans. But in the long run it's gonna' be a tool. Not a replacement for creativity. That's a longer conversation which I'm willing to have. But this message is ready for the bottle. buh bye for now.
