Two points: (1) if xAI is building data centers by disobeying regulations, they should be fined. If they are already being fined and are paying the fines, the question is, why aren’t the fines higher? Most likely because they are aligned with the interests of the government, which is doing what it thinks is best for the country. If we want something different, we have to vote. And (2), if people are using ChatGPT like a search engine when it, “shouldn’t be,” then why aren’t they charging more for it? Most likely because the data they are gathering is more beneficial than the money they might be making from charging and/or the money they are currently losing.
