As someone who's taken a fair bit of ML classes, I think your approach is wrong here. From this video, it seems like you don't yourself really have a background in ML(?), but we aren't taught to use python the same way we would in a class for python or software development. The focus isn't on fundamentals, but on math, algorithms, and on programming specifically for ML. We never use the REPL - we primarily use jupyter notebooks in google collab. Type signatures, inheritance, etc are really not within thescope of our courses. In fact, ML is probably closer related to math than to general software development at my uni. Essentially, you are asking him about things that aren't actually that relevant to his field of study. While yes, he should definitely know some of these things, a lot of them like REPL is absolutely useless in ML. I think you might've gotten better answers if you had asked him about ML specific questions like how he would avoid overfitting, which algorithm he would use for embedding and how it works and so on.
