The surprise at the end is when it turns out humans don’t have general intelligence, but actually a few dozen specific types of intelligence kind of evolutionarily related to the specific areas our brains need to function. We’re intelligent systems, but not generally intelligent. Maybe, if I’m being kind, about 150x as smart as spell check, except without the eiditic memory that spell check would require - especially if you wanted to cover every single human language.
Sadly, the first AI that teaches us this lesson is also the first one to lock us all in a cage, so it’s a mixed bag overall.
