Automation has been around for a while now and, like you said, it has only made workers more efficient, they don't work less and they aren't paid more even though they are producing more in less time. We are in the middle of a late stage capitalism crisis and AI will never be able to fix that, it's the system that has to change for AI to be viable in human society or else everyone will lose.
