I have once heard the phrase, "one thing that could unite all the people of the world would be one common enemy that we must come together to protect humans from".
Not that AI is necessarily an enemy at this point (but may have the potential to be) may actually bring people back together on the same page, in fact may be detrimental for continued successful human existence.
