David Autor is defending the big tech CEOs by saying that using other's proprietary work to train their AI models is not necessarily the AI companies' problem, it is a problem of lack of regulation. Once there is regulation that requires these companies to pay royalty and/or acknowledge credit of the sources that train their models, they will comply! Really David? Do you think we are fools? Don't you know that these AI companies are spending millions of dollars lobbying to remove any and every attempt at legislating AI in any way? I don't think people as smart as David can make statements like these and defend AI companies unless they are paid by these companies to defend them. I am sick to see how many intellectuals are actually sucking up to big tech and defending them as opposed to seeing AI for what it is and calling for radical regulation and attention to safe development and deployment of AI.
