What is the consensus of this community regarding the following scenario: Someone creates an image (note my intentional word choices and the exclusion of the word "art") using A.I. That same person then creates, by-hand, a drawing or painting based on the A.I. generated image. Maybe they are copying it as exactly as they can. Maybe they are making minor tweaks. Maybe they are making stylistic changes but the conceptual content is the same.
(1) Is the hand-made work now copywritable?
(2) How much does the person have to alter their work from the A.I. source image for it to be considered art, or can it EVER be considered art?
Now apply the exact same questions above to a source image created by a human being as opposed to an A.I. Has plagiarism just entered the chat?
Discuss. And note these questions are intended only to invite discussion, not defend nor promote a specific position. I'm an artist and photographer too in a variety of traditional media, as well as digital (without using A.I., in case anyone was wondering).
