Thank you Bernie! I strongly support your proposal of a robot tax on corporations. A robot tax could not only fund a universal basic income to citizens, it could also incentivize organizations to keep humans working if the tax is priced correctly. Humans need jobs not just for pay but also for our own feeling of self-worth. A robot tax could potentially encourage companies to put robots on the most automate-able or dangerous tasks that humans mostly do not like. But a tax could make it so that companies are not rewarded for replacing all jobs, and encourage them to keep humans in better jobs, if workers are given a say in the company governance.
As you say, these changes are coming. It is up to this generation to determine the direction this new technology will take us. It could be a total disaster, or it could be a world with more free time and more opportunity. I hope we have these difficult conversations, although I'm concerned that only Bernie seems to be giving them voice.
