Lol, they're not pausing anything. The US is not going to give up being ahead in the AI game. Just look at the whole tiktok ban bill (which is less about tiktok and more about taking out competition form other countries in the digital tech space).
Also the real threat isn't AI. Its people. Specifically governments and corporations. Both of them are likely to misuse ai and governments are likely to be short-sighted and not prepare society for jobs becoming redundant. Just look at the negative narratives they've created around UBI. It's time both get a thorough review/restructure and have out of touch old farts still clinging to their jobs and unwilling to learn about this space dragged out by their ankles.
Also anything Elon says about openai needs to be taken with a grain(or more like a tablespoon) of salt considering they rejected him from becoming an investor before they blew up.
