So what we’re really suffering from here is the previous proliferation of middle managers who have no idea how anything works. It didn’t used to matter - their underlings who took the orders at least knew how things worked and could mitigate poor guidance and useless “review.” But now, those useless managers have realized “hey, I can give an AI this order instead of a person, and it will give me a return much faster with no questions or arguments” and so they’re in love with AI. So how this played out at my old company was an erosion of respect for the workforce, with less willingness to listen to “that’s a bad idea” warnings. Until eventually, all the skilled workers quit… and management did not panic at first because they figured they could replace us with AI… except now they’re hemorrhaging clients and I suspect will go under within a year or two.
