The main thing the respected professor fails to see is that AI has no will or intrinsic motivation, and therefore it will never pose a threat to humans. Why would AI need a new smartphone? Why would it need to extract natural resources? Without will, there is no action. So the real question is not about the power or capabilities of AI, but about which human commands it will carry out.
