The people who argue about artwork being used to train without permission is a valid argument. The argument that it will cause the loss of jobs for artists however I find to be less helpful. Every time a major new technology comes out that makes a task easier, it usually threatens the livelihoods of a whole class of people. Cars put a lot of horse handlers out of work. The switching telephone eliminated the need for operators. TV lead to the loss of radio. The assembly line meant the loss of a lot of hand crafting artisans. Robotics meant the replacement of assembly line workers. I feel sympathy for artists, especially smaller ones who see people using AI generated artwork for various purposes instead of commissioning them. And I think artists should be able to prevent their art from being used as training sets for the AI. But I don't think this is just going to go away. At best with a smaller data set to work with, the art that comes out of the AI will suffer enough that a large portion of people still prefer the real deal. Even if the effective art creation quality of AI stays the same as it is now, there will be always those who will want the human touch.
