I would love AI art if we lived in a wholly different economy. It could enable the world to be absolutely covered in semi-original art. In the world we actually live in, it's just one more tool to maximize profit and make the world a worse place.
Currently when I make games I do the basic graphics myself, because I have no budget. I'm not great at it nor do I like it very much. I've been debating using AI art as well or instead. I would still upgrade to real digital art if and when the game made money.
I would never prompt for art "in the style of artist X". That's just obscured plagiarism.
I feel like there are still some niche contexts like this where AI generated art makes some sense, but they are hard to identify, and never in the for-profit world.
