Making consumers completely apathetic towards their market. Consumer buying habits switched from excited want-to-have buying habits to have-to-have buying habits. Why buy phone 2026 if it's identical to phone 2025? How excited can you be for anything when everyone has the exact same make, model and color as you? Now imagine the consumer excitement levels when the difference between the year's model is a continuously lower level of quality. NOW imagine these same monopolies also leveraged themselves up to their eyeballs in flexible interest rate loans to buy up all the smaller competitors, that were, at the time 0% interest rates and currently these loans have skyrocketed in interest rates. Now imagine a federal government that turned off the spigot to a large majority of the corporate welfare. A lot of these companies are doing layoffs because the companies are cooked... but rather then do the ethical thing and just outright say, "Hey this company is broke." Declare bankruptcy and save investors billions of dollars. Instead they are trying to keep up the appearance the Titanic is still sea worthy and try to sell more passage.
