The Truth is to have a Fully Autonomous Vehicle that can handle almost any Weather Condition then you need Lidar, there is No way around it. The Tesla is the the iPhone and Waymo is the Android but in this instance the Android is Outperforming the iPhone it just isn't as Slick. Not going to Lie I would Hate to Drive a Car with all of those Lidar Detectors but if that is what is needed to get Me from Point A to B Safely while I Sit in the Back Seat like the CEO that I am in almost any Weather Condition besides a Hurricane then I would learn to live with the Lidar on My Car. There are more Discrete Lidar Devices than what Waymo is using they are just more Expensive which is Cost Prohibitive when Building a Fleet of Robot Taxies for your Own Company.
