I like AI art, I installed a program that can barely run on my potato PC and generate pictures all the time. However, I never claim that whatever pictures are produced are Art. If I ever show them off, I always make sure to say that it is AI generated art, not something I, myself, produced. I think that should be something that every AI generated picture should mention. The same should be said about style or subject of a picture. The fact that a specific style that a certain artist uses should be disclosed and mentioned in description at all times.
However, saying that nobody should be able to use a specific style because it belong to the artist is wrong. Do artist not learn by replicating already existing artworks and styles from anime/cartoons? Is it possible to copyright a "Realistic" or "Hyper realistic" style and then forbid anyone from ever using it in photos/drawing? Don't other mediums have a lot of fan created works that try and emulate the existing media?
Ai is a tool that has been created, it's a pandora's box that has been opened and I doubt that anything ever could possibly close it. Even if artists somehow manage to shut down existing AI, the technology is out there and it is spreading. Even if it is outlawed, there will be bad elements that will ignore the rules and may maliciously copy existing art and styles. However, due to how rare and illegal such art would be, the exclusivity on its own will make it more valuable. Instead artists should embrace the technology and find a way to authenticate that their artwork is real, hand drawn and time-consuming process, not something done with a press of a button.
I think AI art should have it's own, separate legal distinction, like how Digital art is different from Traditional art. Viewers should be informed whenever the AI used materials from other artists as base and to mention their names. But to prohibit such process in its entirety would counter-productive. People that ignore laws, countries that don't follow the same laws, new methods that can overcome whatever roadblocks are placed in their way, many things would be able to ignore the desires of artists. Nothing is stopping me or any other person on the internet from copying Sam's work by hand and replicating his style and using copied works as a basis for a new model and calling that "original art by TehEuge". This has already happened and artists should find a way to work with the innovations, not try and fight against them.
