Just because it's looking closer to being like the real thing, doesn't automatically give it a soul. I feel even live action remakes of cult classics can be soulless as the intent there is purely just to grab original content and just reproduce it with profit in mind. Just putting content out there to look like something people love, like ghibli's style for instance, thinking people will like it is a total misunderstanding of why we enjoyed it in the first place, it's missing the passion and intricate details that the studio had put days and weeks into which includes the backgrounds that carry culture and can be used to story tell as well as the backgrounds and character to the figures or objects in the content created.
A real life example is the Lilo and Stich remake, yes it is animated by humans but the main intention there was to make profit and they didn't take much care or thought into character development and took out what made the characters so lovable in the first place. With this drive for money, it can leave anything soulless as it takes out the love and passion for detail.
