I have a Master's in Computer Science with a focus in Computer Network and System Administration. My grades were pretty good throughout my undergrad and grad school. I am not a software engineer and I did not have any plans of being one. I currently work as a Network Engineer for a university. I have a working knowledge of most of the concepts that I studied during college and I know how to program. I will say that I am really rusty and need a refresher from time to time. Any programming I do is mainly using Python for parsing data, automation, generating reports, and using API's. The other portion of my job deals with networking, like switches, routers, wireless networking, wireless design, VPNs, DHCP/DNS, firewalls, and more. I would say you can get a CS degree and not be the best programmer, but what you learn is important and should not be taken lightly. The best way to use Ai like ChatGPT is to facilitate your learning and not do the work for you. I would ask it questions about different concepts and examples of how those concepts work. Now I won't lie, I have used chagpt to generate some regex for me because I was lazy even though I know how to use regex.
