excitement is a feeling but apologizing is a rational act that may or may not have feelings... about being conscious I don't believe it is, because the gpt chat is just a language model that predicts one word after another... it is possible that at some point there is some simulation of consciousness... but to be sure we would need to invade Open AI and see the their codes
