Umm . . . But if AI gets to the point where it is able to choose whether or not it wants consciousness, doesn't that imply that it already HAS consciousness at that point? I mean, the simple act of contemplating the advantages and disadvantages of having consciousness would demonstrate that it has both desires and self awareness as well as the ability to for reason and decision making. Don't those things already qualify as consciousness?
