Humans are safe because of one human factor that I'm not sure a higher artificial intelligence can be taught to have...DESIRE. We desire for more, we desire to discover, we desire to explore. Can desire become apart of the higher intelligence? It's the reason why we, as humans, haven't stopped moving forward. If we're all unemployed, some will indeed take this new extra time and waste it on consumption, but others I think will appreciate it and utilize this extra time to fulfill the next desire that they create.
