At this time self driving trucks (SDT) are targeting long haul. These trucks can roll 24/7. There is more driver shortages in the long haul arena than local. Not many drivers WANT to do long haul as long haul requires a driver without a life. It requires someone to live in their truck and have no interest in going home. The big carriers for years has sought out single drivers to do long haul. But if SDT take over long haul, all drivers will be able to go home each night.
