To adapt to the emergence of AI's as a the standard source of low precision information and IP, search engines will need to redesign themselves to be a distribution model and billing system for high value high credibility information.
Essentially they can be a central place for the owners of this information to advertise their products and charge for it's use either using advertising revenue, charging for citations, or charging for bulk use of their data for AI training purposes.
