This issue has kind of always been a non-issue to me personally. Mostly because human art is just better. AI is a toy I use occasionally to help me visualize stuff I've created in other art forms, ala writing or poetry, it's never outward facing it's just a sort of place keeper for my imagination. If I had a need for commercial art though, I would engage an actual artist because it's sort of crazy not to. Calling oneself an artist because you use AI well is like calling yourself a chef because you can microwave a TV dinner. As far as the nightshade thing I think you should have the right to ask people not to use your art to train an AI so enforcing it with a program seems like a good for the goose good for the gander situation to me hope it works for you, and that is not a sarcastic sentiment I genuinely do hope it keeps working. I doubt the purpose for which I engage the odd AI image generator will be overly impacted. And if it is? Oh well I guess I'll just go back to the way I was doing things before. Will of the people I guess. If microwaves and TV dinners were outlawed tomorrow I'd just go buy a toaster oven and some bread. Ain't gonna starve.
