I’m an artist, but I’m also of the opinion that copyright is a monopolistic law that stunts competition and innovation. Competition and innovation results in cheaper products of higher quality than previously available to the consumer. That’s a good thing. I will say that not crediting the original artist would be a bad thing, though. In my ideal world, artists would profit from production (crowd-funding or patronage) and distribution (which the artist could also profit from) would be highly competitive and would advertise their work. Every derivative would be required by law to be credited to its original artist. Basically, I prefer copyleft over copyright. That being said, when it comes to stopping these AI companies from making money, anyone can get these AI generated images for free with a computer. The AI companies are selling the convenience of being able to do it on a phone. That’s where most of their revenue is coming from. If you hate their business practices, releasing a free phone app that does the same thing as their for-profit apps would destroy their business model.
