Self driving cars are NOT a double edged sword, they are a bat with a bladed handle.
The so called safety upsudes are only seen as such because people who talk about them are car-brained americans who cant imagine not having a highway in their bakcyard.
The only effective way to reduce car fatalities is building better infrastructure for alternative modes of transport, walking, cycling, busses, trains.
Autonomous cars are nothing more than a techno-futurist self-maturbatory ego project that aas sold to us by billionaires because they read all the cyberpunk books, saw the oppressive oligarchic corporate ruling class and identified with them like "yes thats what *I* should do too."
