The missing piece of logic is that at some point AI will drive the cost of providing for people's basic needs so far down that UBI becomes more doable. At some point the rich will realize that they can get all those whiny poor people to shut up for a just a few percentage points of GDP. Give people a free place to live, free food to eat, and free entertainment and the motivation people might have had to get off their couches and rebel disappears. Why fight off the revolutionaries when it's cheaper to buy off the revolutionaries?
