Facial recognition got it wrong. LOTS of people look like someone else. Also, this is just another example of lazy policing. If you can get machinery to do what cops largely aren't doing these days--pounding the pavement, forging relationships, and actually talking to people without intimidation tactics--crimes can be solved, often with little violence.
Consider also that facial recognition software is often deployed whenever people post photos of themselves on social media sites. All those images go into databases, which can be accessed by law enforcement. It's part of how so many of the Capitol rioters have been found and arrested. Of course, to their credit, the programs didn't identify any of them wrongly.
