Product Designer here (20 years in) at a Sr. and above level and I think you have it wrong for UI/UX (we'll avoid the "UI/UX" title battle). I've been without steady employment for 2 years. Designers are mostly treated like pixel pushers in many situations. Even with experience, research, well designed mockups/prototypes, we're often ignored. Developers already can "do design" using platforms like Bootstrap, MUI, Tailwind, and don't think they need us. Now they can go to several AI based products and have it spit out a design based on those platforms. As AI matures, it will be able to provide solid research and best UX practices and even run testing before and after launch.
My prediction, and I hope I'm wrong, is that what currently takes a 10 person dev team with designers 6 months to build will be done with 2-3 people in a few weeks. A lot of folks are going to be out of work.
