Most of the people who follow Ezra Klein occupy the top layer of society: college educated, house, regular income, vote, healthcare plan, retirement plan, served by law enforcement, view the world from top down. But there are lower layers: sporadic income, shelter where you can find it, don't vote, no healthcare, no retirement, controlled by law enforcement, view the world from the bottom up. This is a bigger part of our society than we might imagine, and is a majority in much of the world. With AI, the top layer will quite possibly become more rarified. Many of your followers will lose their membership. The lower layers will quite possibly become more populous, bolstered by many of your former followers. Changing the size and composition of the layers in our society will have consequences, best understood by taking the struggles of our current underclass more seriously, and thinking of ways to accomodate these people aside from throwing them in prison or letting them die on the street.
