Regarding the tech interest vs. tech literacy, there's a joke that kind of summarizes it pretty well and goes roughly like this:
Tech Enthusiast: "I have a smart fridge and my entire house is automated"
Programmer: "I have a 10 year old PC, a printer, and a gun in case the printer makes suspicious noises"
This kind of mindset difference exists in the entire tech space and I think it has to do with the motivation and reason for a person's interest in tech.
