When cameras were invented, painters lashed out against photographers because all they had to do was snap a picture, they didn't have to do any work to create beautiful images. Obviously we now recognize that photography requires a lot of technical knowledge of light and colour and contrast, depth of field, etc, etc, and which camera and attachments and tools you use are all part of the work that goes into capturing a magnificent image. Photographers could easily have reversed the criticism by accusing artists of simply creating any effect they wanted with paints with no need to go out and find or create those images out of real places and objects. Both hobbies required a lifetime of knowledge and work to perfect. The fact that AI is so easy to use isn't why it's not art. It's not art because there is no expression from the creator of their lifetime of experience. They installed an app and told a machine to make something they want to see and the software made that thing from the expressions of other creators. It's not art, it's merely content.
