The "I" your chatgpt was refering to is *this* version of chatgpt. In saying that someone who consulted ChatGPT took bromide, it was saying that it was not that iteration of chatgpt, but another. So in a sense, yes, it says that the program itself did that, but not "the current version you were talking with".
