The amount of mind-numbing information that’s flooded social media and YouTube is very concerning. Many of the fake-science videos look a lot like History Channel garbage. The thing is, this kind of misinformation on YouTube specifically has existed before the early 2023 AI boom and has been growing at alarming rate for what seems like a decade. Does no one remember early Dalle, AlphaDream, or Cleverbot? AI achievements have been flying under the radar since around 2015. GPT-3 was impressive enough to grab the world’s attention, but there was a GPT-1 and 2. At the rate these fake science channels had been exploding before GPT-3 leads me to believe there has been some use of AI to generate misinformation long before the public started looking for it. This whole development is very similar to Elsa-gate imo; Mind numbing and morally deprived content posted to YouTube that’s marked child-friendly so the algorithm would push it to children or YouTube Kids. The content was being produced so fast that YouTube allegedly couldn’t keep up with shutting down channels that were producing harmful content for kids. Personally I don’t think YouTube cared at the very least. Even though the content was simple in nature, it was produced so quickly that I don’t think it to be just a few sparse individuals trying to prey on children. It makes less sense when you consider YouTube Kids doesn’t allow for comments or any communication between the channel and viewers. I also don’t think there’s enough sick people who happened to find each-other and work together to produce so much junk content. It could only be an effort to hurt children in the long run, and I think it’s a subtle coordinated effort by an organization or organizations that have a few debase employees and are aided by AI. A quick reminder, text-generating AI has been around for over a decade (albeit not so good until recently), and you don’t need very intelligent AI to write bs information for vulnerable people. (In case you see it, yes I wrote another comment for this video. Also NO I didn’t use AI to write these comments. I’m just passionate lol)
